Australia's agency adspend pond has another line angling for its dollars with the establishment of Amazon Media Group.

After launching retail operations in Australia last December, Amazon has been working up its Prime premium and video streaming service. Amazon Media Group sells its advertising products, working especially with agencies and brands, and has just named industry veteran Henry Tajer as its managing director.

Reports on Digiday say advertising has grown 132 per cent "year on year" to an estimated $2 billion as Amazon works to gain display, mobile, video, programmatic and self-service revenue.

Tajer was previously global chief executive and Australian executive chairman of IPG Mediabrands. His CV includes time as Australian chief executive and regional president of Universal McCann, and as national trading director of Zenith Media.

AMG is also reported to be looking for an account manager, and campaign and creative associate.

Amazon founder Jeff Bezos is the owner of the Washington Post newspaper and its Arc Publishing technology unit.
