A candid conversation about newsmedia's challenges is set to be a highlight of this year's America East conference on March 12.
News Media Alliance chairman Michael Klingensmith keynotes the opening day, and will draw three other industry leaders into a panel discussion.
Klingensmith, who is publisher and chief executive of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune, will be joined by Sara Glines (Raleigh, NC, News & Observer), Ray Eckenrode (Altoona Mirror, Pennsylvania) George Arwady (Advance Publications, Springfield, Massachussets).
Organised by Pennsylvania NewsMedia Association, the America East Media Business & Technology Conference is being held from March 12-14 at Hershey Lodge in the "chocolate city" of Hershey.
Klingensmith joined the Star Tribune in 2010 after spending most of his more than 40-year career in publishing with Time Inc. in New York. He was the co-developer of the concept for Entertainment Weekly and became its founding publisher in 1989. In 1998, Klingensmith was named president of Sports Illustrated.
Sara Glines is president and publisher of the News & Observer in Raleigh, North Carolina, as well as regional publisher for McClatchy's seven Carolina media outlets. She moved to Raleigh in September 2016 after years as regional publisher with Gannett and Digital First Media. She was also president and publisher of the York Daily Record from 2012 to 2016.
