Birthday gifts to mark Koenig & Bauer's bicentenary have been doubled by the press maker to make a 60,300 Euro donation to Doctors Without Borders.

The 'don't bring a gift, make a donation' message prompted many of the guests at the October celebration to contribute to Nobel Peace Prize winner Doctors Without Borders (Ärzte ohne Grenzen eV).

A cheque for 60,300 Euros to support the emergency medical aid charity was presented in Würzburg, Germany, at the end of last month by board chairman Claus Bolza-Schünemann and corporate communications and marketing head Dagmar Ringel.

Carmen Heeg, a seasoned volunteer for Doctors Without Borders who has worked in countries including Malawi and Nigeria, emphasised the exceptional nature of a donation of this scale. "Many, many thanks for your generous donation which will enable us continue helping people in need across the globe," she said.

Doctors Without Borders provides medical aid in crisis and war zones, and in the wake of natural disasters. Founded in 1971, the international organisation provides fast, efficient aid without any red tape to people irrespective of their origin, religion or political convictions. Around 35,000 doctors, psychologists, nurses, care workers, midwives and logistics experts work for the organisation on a voluntary basis in some 70 countries.
