Goss sister company Presstek is increasing its investment in the newspaper market with the appointment of industry veteran Patrick Kilgallon as its North American corporate accounts manager for newspaper groups.

Worldwide sales and marketing director Ralph Jenkins says the new role has been created to provide a dedicated resource for newspaper prepress needs: "Kilgallon's new role underscores our commitment to the newspaper print market. With Patrick's first-hand experience and unparalleled knowledge of newspaper print applications, local and national newspaper groups will be able to make more informed business decisions."

Kilgallon (pictured) joined Presstek in 2013 from the Erie Times, where his 30-year career saw him honoured with the Edward Thomas Memorial Award. He also championed the newspaper market as a chairman of the America East conference.

Presstek and Goss International - which are both owned by private-equity firm American Industrial Partners - announced new collaboration at DRUPA last year, and new products aimed at commercial and newspaper markets.

New thermal and violet plate offerings are the result of Presstek's acquisition of Anocoil Corporation. For newspapers, these include N200 - capable of runs up to 200,000 impressions, or 300,000 with preheat and more than a million with post-bake - and the chemistry-free "develop-on-press" GemPlate Newz thermal plates. Allso new are NuVio Newz - claimed to be the world's first no preheat violet plate for newspaper printing - and the positive-working HSUV high speed ultraviolet plate.

Presstek will support these with new thermal and violet platesetters.
