A new bandwidth-for-adviews business model has caught the imagination of Australian media and tech investors.

Local startup Unlockd - developer of the technology used by launch partner Lebara - plans USA and UK expansion after raising double digit millions.

The third capital
raising comes ahead of product debuts in Australia
and the US.

Founded by Chris Kerrisk, Craig Watt and Matt Berriman, Unlockd is pioneering a model which allows consumers
to pay for part of their usage when they view advertising, deals and content on unlocking their phone. The Lebara Mobile launch is to be followed shortly by a US telecom brand early
next year.

The company says investors include Seek's Matt Rockman, Andrew Walsh (Hitwise), Gabby and Hezi Leibovich (Catch of the Day Group), Sam Mostyn (a board member of Virgin Australia and the AFL Commission), Margaret Jackson (Spotless) and former Seven Group Holdings managing director and chief executive Peter Gammell. International investors include Hong Kong's PLC Investments, led by Citibank vice chairman Jeff Emmanuel.

Berriman says the solution will "forever change" the way people use and pay for their smartphones in Australia and internationally. He says it will allow advertisers to reach the holy grail
of geotargeted, full-screen mobile advertising.

"This is a global play and will be revenue generating from day one."

With Lebara Mobile, Australian customers who download the app and opt-in to view a display ad, deal or piece of content, will be eligible for a bonus 2GB of data per month. Content will appear "every three or four times" they unlock their Android smartphones, and can be dismissed instantly.

Unlockd says it aims to have products featuring its technology available in UK, Indonesia, India, China and Singapore by the end of 2016.

Berriman (pictured) who is a former general manager of CC Media, a catalogue distribution business acquired by APN News & Media in 2011, says the capital injections will enable Unlockd to establish itself globally, and it is on track to turn over revenue oif $50 million revenue within the next year.
