Predictive maintenance tech will save costs, failures

manroland has coined a new word, "maintellisense" to ensure that web press users get the parts and service they need, just in time.

A spokesman says the company recognises that while every printing system failure costs money, overcautious maintenance does as well.

"Modern technologies will soon be able to help replace spare and wear parts only when necessary, but always in time. As a press manufacturer, we have sufficient data and resources to do this and therefore increase the productivity of its customers and lower their costs."

With the German company pitching its service and support offering increasingly at the broader sector - it recently upgraded control systems on a Goss press in the USA - it is emphasising an offering which goes beyond relocations, reconfiguration or even servicing third-party presses.

A new online spare and wear parts store went live last year, and following user experience improvements, manroland now plan to make it a diverse marketplace for the entire industry as Market-X. Sub-suppliers will be able to market their products, and an expansion of the platform for used parts and presses is scheduled.

Maintellisense is part of its evolution of the service contract sector, "Industry 4.0" solutions focussed on increasing machine efficiency and thereby reduce the total costs.

Predictive maintenance technologies will soon be used to help replace spare and wear parts "only when necessary, but always in time". Actionable data from that already collected in different areas of the company is being tested with pilot customers in the first expansion stage of the new automated service philosophy, and the company promises further developments and information in coming weeks.
