Koenig & Bauer is expanding its presence in southeast Asia with the appointment of a flexo technology specialist.

With two decades' experience in the printing industry - including time with a leading gravure cylinder maker - Carina Shia (pictured) will support KBA-Flexotecnica's push into the developing market.

She is already credited with leading the process which has led to the sale of a second flexo press in Malaysia, to Tomypak Flexible Packaging

KBA Asia-Pacific managing director Andreas Friedrich says that with many years of experience in flexible packaging, her enthusiasm for print finishing and her strong network in this region, he is certain she will help the company attain its "ambitious goals" in Asia.

Founded in 1979, Tomypak is now one of Malaysia's leading flexible converters with more than 400 employees. The installation of a KBA EVO XD - scheduled for the second half of this year - will take the company into flexo from its current all-gravure focus, following a trend that has seen the more environmentally-sensitive process grow globally by four to five per cent.
