New PressReader app gets flow, depth

Digital newspaper specialist NewspaperDirect has added intelligent ‘SmartFlow’ reading capabilities to its iPad reader upgrade.

The app uses facilities in the iPad2’s iOS5 operating system to deliver what the company says it its “smoothest and most natural” browsing and reading experience with a new horizontal news-reading feature.

The feature complements the replica newspaper presentation with the ability to view articles as a continuous stream of stories that flow across the iPad, with visual cues which access additional content.

Users click a ‘continue’ link at the bottom of the snippet to expand to the full story without leaving the content flow.

“PressReader 3.0 is a major release that embodies our intense focus on enriching the reading experience for our subscribers, and those of our SmartEdition publishers,” says chief executive Alex Kroogman.

Among publishers using the service are the Washington Post, Chicago Tribune, Philadelphia Inquirer, National Post, Globe and Mail, Guardian, Daily Mail, International Herald Tribune, Irish Times, ABC, La Tribune, Le Monde and the Australian.
