Upgrade orders bring German print sites in line

Two Cromoman newspaper presses - one of them now 18 years old - will be brought up-to-date with the latest colour control technology.

German printing company, Druckhaus Wittich has commissioned QI Press Controls to install its register and cut-off systems on the presses in Föhren in southwest Germany. One installation - on a 15-year-old manroland press of five towers - is an upgrade from an older QI system, while the other replaces a system installed by another company on a similar 18-year-old press.

Wittich's Frank Trossen says the work - involving ten mRC-3D cameras on each line - will "future proof" the presses: "Our printing plants in Herbstein (Hessen) and Herzberg (Brandenburg) already use QI's mRC system," he says.

The order also means that all the company's 17 printing towers will be equipped with automation systems from the same company.
