Berlin: WoodWing starts new shopping list

Thirteen months after its acquisition of the Elvis asset management technology, software developer WoodWing is looking at what to buy next.

On something of a dream run with its partner-based sales and support structure, the company “could be building a list”, incoming chief executive Roel-Jan Mouw admits.

“But there remains the questions of ‘is it for sale’ and ‘is this the time’,” he says.

At WAN-Ifra’s World Publishing Expo event in Berlin, the company launched its fourth update of the Elvis DAM since the acquisition last October, complementing the version 9 upgrade of its core content management product Enterprise. New features include an HTML5 web client which allows users to access a central server from any location, even when travelling.

With its tight integration with the new version of the Elvis asset management application – enabling publication to social media such as Facebook and Twitter as easily as to web or print – “anyone can be the publisher”.

“It might be an editor or it might be a marketer or social media strategist,” he says.

Mouw says he sees parallels with his time at Adobe – with its market pitch against QuarkXpress, and consolidation of the web-oriented business of Macromedia – and says WoodWing is lucky to have a choice of growth options as   corporates as well as publishers evolve into a digital-first model. “Enterprise 9 is where we prove there is a great operational focus on ‘digital first’,” he says.

“Which opportunity to pursue… that’s a luxury for us.”
