Despite the tragic setback of the death of its general secretary and the challenge of demonetisation, IPAMA's flagship Printpack India 2017 is marching ahead with almost 400 exhibitors expected.

Naveen Gupta has taken over as general secretary following the death on November 21 of Bal Krishan Khindria - known to friends as Balu - after more than four decades in the printing industry and a foundation role in IPAMA.

Printpack India 2017 runs form February 4-8 February at India Expo Mart in Greater Noida, Delhi NCR. At last reports, more than 13,300 m2 had been booked by 272participants, with the expectation that this total would pass 400 shortly.

Taking part are a broad range of exhibitors, with major international newspaper segment players including manroland web, Müller Martini, Fujifilm, QIPC-EAE and QuadTech showing alongside locals such as Manugraph, NBG Printographics, Pressline India and Technova.

In addition to its role as India's biggest newspaper press manufacturer, Manugraph has recently entered a technical collaboration which will see the production of CI flexo presses at Kolhapur in association with Italy's C&C Flexo.

IPAMA president H.V. Sheth says the mega event will provide a composite stage to showcase innovations and provide an opportunity to enter the local industry through manufacture, joint-ventures, technology transfers and component outsourcing: "I welcome all the participants and the members who are contemplating to participate in this mahakumbh of the graphic arts industry of India," he says.

The event is being held in the Delhi National Capital Region, seen as a heartland of publishing and printing and an area in which there will be particular interest in new technologies including digital printing.

An added attraction is the Business Outlook conference being held in conjunction with America's NPES and supported by All India Federation of Master Printers Association and market research group PRIMIR. Speakers include NPES president Thayer Long, media consultant Steven Schnoll, Jeff Protheroe (now regional sales vice president of Aleyant Systems) and Appadurai, country manager for HP Indigo and inkjet presses.
