Wanderful, the 'digital coupon' company formed by a dozen US publishers, has been sold to OwnLocal.

Based in California, Wanderful operates Find&Save - a website and mobile app which promotes local coupons and ad content to consumers, who can browse, save, and print local retailers' coupons - and iCircular, which it acquired from Associated Press.

Wanderful was formed in 2011 as a partnership between 12 media companies, including Cox Media, Gannett, Hearst and the Washington Post.

OwnLocal says it will expand its media partner network and augment its suite of digital services it provides to local advertisers. Chief executive Lloyd Ambrust says OwnLocal was happy to have acquired "deep expertise and supporting technology" from Wanderful to help more businesses be seen and found online. Based in Austin, Texas, OwnLocal acquired Florida-based digital service provider Print2Web in February. Its 3300 clients include Digital First Media, News Corp Australia and Cox Media.
