The Newspaper Works is looking for up-and-coming young executives to apply for its $10,000 PANPA Hegarty Prize scholarship.

Member newspapers can each make one nomination, which must be endorsed by the newspaper’s general manager, managing director or chief executive. The winner will be announced at the Newspaper of the Year dinner on September 6.

The annual prize honours former PANPA executive director Patrick Hegarty. The bursary of A$10,000 is typically used for overseas travel to study an aspect of newspaper operations.

The gala awards night will also see the presentation of prizes for Newspaper of the Year, and in categories for technical excellence, environment, photography, innovation, marketing, health and safety, and will be a highlight of the 2012 PANPA Future Forum.

Speakers at the event on September 6-7 at the Sydney Convention & Exhibition Centre include ‘Newsonmics’ author Ken Doctor, who has gained a global reputation for his insights into the future of newspapers and their digital properties.

The keynote address will be given by the News Limited chief executive Kim Williams, who will outline his vision for the industry and outline the significant structural change being made at the company.

Entry to the Forum is free members and subscribers to The Newspaper Works, including all those who were members of PANPA.
