Lightweight capability wins for KBA inkjet

High-end book printer Kösel is moving into short-run production with KBA's RotaJet 76 inkjet web press.

Founded in 1593 and based in Altusried Krugzell, Germany, the firm produces about 13 million books a year, its 190 employees generating sales of around 22 million Euros a year.

A multiple award-winner, it was named book printer of the year at the Druck & Medien awards last year, and took the DID award for book finishing and an IF Design award for print media.

The RotaJet 76 - connected inline finishing kit from GEP Germany (Global Ehret Processing Technology) - is expected to replace the existing offset web press.

A consideration has been the ability to handle very thin paper via its intelligent web guidance system which uses two large cylinders without turner bars. It will be used predominantly to print substrates under 40 gsm.

The press will have a maximum web speed of 150 metres/minute and a maximum web width of 780 mm, equivalent to about 3,000 A4 pages a minute.
