Faster, wider... but wait for new inkjets

Two new inkjet web presses announced at GraphExpo will not be available until after DRUPA next May.

The 1067 mm wide T480 HD and T470 HD presses - now part of what the maker calls its 'PageWide' web press portfolio - have 2400 nozzles per inch imaging with enhanced print quality with "unparalleled dual-drop-weight architecture" and built-in nozzle redundancy.

Apart from publishing, direct mail and general commercial printing applications, the presses will produce banners up to almost 2.75 metres long. Speed is up to 400 feet per minute or up to 800 fpm (T480) and 600 fpm ((T470) in "performance mode", using single drop weights.

Rotomail Italia in Milan will install the first T480 HD. HP also says existing customers will be upgrade to the new technology and has promised they can lock in pricing for up to seven years.

HP also announced a 558 mm duplex priming solution to make coated offset media inkjet compatible,and a new collaboration with Felix Schoeller to manufacture and distribute inkjet coated papers with ColorPRO Technology.

New HP SmartStream Solutions partners are manroland web systems, and ColorGATE Digital Output Solutions.
