Namasthe Telangana is ready for the launch of an English-language edition after pressing the start button on a new high-speed press.

Chairman and managing director Damodar Rao says the installation of a manroland Cromoman 4-1 will allow them to handle other publications in addition to the flagship daily: "Soon we are launching an English daily and I believe this press will deliver best quality among other noted dailies," he says. "With the new Cromoman, we perfectly focus on our future business."

Circulated through ten districts, the Telugu-language daily is based in Hyderabad, its launch in 2011 delivering a long-awaited voice on the movement for a separate Telangana state.

A ceremony to celebrate the commissioning of the new press took place in October, following a 2015 order. Damodar Rao pushed the button to start the first production of sample newspapers, announcing exceptions had been "more than met".

The four-tower press is a double-width, one-around design capable of producing a variety of formats at up to 75,000 cph. These include a 32 page product, two of 16 pages, or a 24-page newspaper and another of eight pages; it will also produce two books in parallel, and has a quarterfold for magazine printing.

The press - a design modified for Indian conditions - is equipped with automation systems including quick changeover PECOM controls, automatic web-up and inline colour register and cut-off control.

"The investment in a highly modern manroland web systems press reflects the development of Namasthe Telangana in becoming a modern and state-of-the-art newspaper publisher," manroland India managing director Sudeep Bhattacharjee says.

Operationa general manager Srinivas Ch says the order followed a very close look to the press series: "The efficient and energy-saving production combined with a high output is the ideal equipment for our growing business," he says. The installation brings manroland web's base in India to 26 including one heatset web, supported by the company's own market organisation with locations in Delhi, Chennai and Bangalore.
