Waste has been halved at Saudi-based Al Madina Printing & Publishing following an upgrade of press and colour controls.

The Jeddah-based operation contracted QI Press Controls and sister company EAE for the systems which have also helped increase production reliability.

Erwin van Rossem, head of sales at QIPC, says a further development could be an upgrade to closed-loop colour on the Goss Universal 50 press, to which 18 IDS-3D cameras have been fitted for colour register.

EAE upgraded existing controls on the press and section with modernisation of the EAE Info system, Baltic Star consoles and an upgrade from PPC to CLC.

Van Rossem says Al Madina has asked to have Goss closely involved with the installation, resulting in an effective collaboration with them for this project: and the future. Al Madina had been working with EAE since 2000, with Goss again as the go-between. "The takeover of EAE by QIPC means implementation is now easier and less training of personnel."
