Reelstand upgrade secures parts

ABB will replace obsolete controls and drives on reelstands at Druckzentrum Südwest in southwest Germany.

The company - which prints newspapers the well-known Schwarzwälder Bote and other titles - will also replace drives on all draw rollers in the turner bar decks of the Wifag OF370 press and upgrade an existing ABB Press Master system.

New reelstand controls use ABB's AC500 PLC system for which spare parts are readily available from ABB and numerous independent suppliers. Existing drives will be replaced with ABB ACSM1s built into the existing cabinets.

Commissioning of the new controls and drives will be completed before the year is out.
