Perth-based Aspermont – which produces weekly and monthly titles for the resource sector in Australia and the UK – has gone live with a multimedia system based on WoodWing’s Enterprise platform. Australian managing editor Greg Tubby says the company recognised a need for more streamlined production in 2007. Its 17 publications include local flagship ‘Mining Monthly’ – established more than 25 years ago – while its 175-year-old ‘Mining Journal’, produced in the UK, is the industry’s leading weekly newspaper. The need to reaches its audience through print, conferencing and online media channels made Enterprise an ideal choice for Aspermont, WoodWing Asia Pacific managing director Remco Koster says. “They needed an editorial system that allowed them to seamlessly push content to any channel. Aspermont is a true multimedia company, and WoodWing’s blended media concept fitted their needs perfectly.” A tricky tender document called for an editorial solution based around Adobe InDesign that incorporated flat planning and digital asset management. Matthew Green of solution partner Creative Folks says Enterprise was the obvious choice, partnered with van Gennep PlanMaker fE and Opix Media Warehouse. Staffers on both sides say the implementation has gone extremely well. “Aspermont’s editorial, production and IT staff have made our jobs very easy,” says Andrew Lomas, project/sales director at Creative Folks. “Their willingness to learn several new applications and their grasp of the processes involved has greatly influenced the integration of the new system.” Tubby says early results are impressive, with “significant improvements” to the production flowchart.
