QI Press Controls reports it will install its automatic colour register system on a recently-acquired 2011 Goss Community at Portuguese printer FIG.

The company had been looking at possible ways of expanding and improving processes at its plant in Coimbra - halfway between Lisbon and Porto - for some time, and had decided that its next press would have QIPC automation.

Production at FIG is subject to frequent changeovers - partly because the plant prints several regional newspapers, among them the daily Diário de Coimbra, Diário de Aveiro, Diário de Leiria and Diário de Viseu - making start-up efficiency a key issue.

FIG financial director Jorge Dinis says savings in waste, ink and personnel are expected. "At the same time, thanks to QIPC's system, we're anticipating major improvements in the quality of the end-product," he says.

Eight mRC-3D cameras will automate colour register, fitted with automatic lens cleaning systems, and will be installed once the press has arrived in Portugal.
