Days ahead of the INMA World Congress in New York, WAN-Ifra and America's News Media Alliance have announced plans for their own conference in the city.

Digital Media North America will be held in the Thomson Reuters Building from October 18-20, with Reuters as its strategic partner.

WAN-Ifra's premier event, the Ifra World Publishing Expo is being held in Berlin the previous week, October 10-12, while NMA held its own mediaXchange conference and expo in New Orleans at the end of April.

For WAN-Ifra, the North America conference fills a gap in its Digital Media programme, with events already being held Europe, Asia, India and Latin America drawing more than 1200 delegates.

WAN-Ifra chief executive Vincent Peyrègne says collaboration has always been at the heart of the organisation's heart: "A joining of forces between the News Media Alliance's deep insight of the US news media and WAN-Ifra's international network and industry knowledge will make this a unique and successful event," he says.

"North American news media companies have always been at the forefront of innovation and digital transformation in our industry. We're very much looking forward to including them in our Digital Media conference series."

NMA president and chief executive David Chavern says the conference reinforces news media's position as the leading global digital news source for high-quality, investigative journalism: "Our members have massive - and expanding - digital businesses, and they are continually making investments in innovative ways to deliver news through digital media."

Organisers say Digital Media North America will explore the most relevant trends and issues affecting the industry, while providing a platform for networking and business development for top media executives. Some of the themes tackled at the conference include new digital revenue streams, third-party distribution platforms, ad-blocking and innovative storytelling, with examples not only from the US and Canada, but also from other parts of the world.

Entries are being invited for WAN-Ifra's North American Digital Media Awards, which will recognise the most groundbreaking digital products that engage readers while growing online business. Winners will be announced during the conference and be eligible for WAN-Ifra's World Digital Media Awards.
