Control on seven Goss double-width presses at the New York Times facility in College Point are being upgraded by the maker.

Five Colorliners and two Colorliner 85 presses will have newly-updated control platforms, removing obsolescence issues, increasing press functionality and allowing the presses to continue to run for years to come.

The five Colorliners will undergo a complete controls upgrade to both unit and the desk controls, a drive upgrade and upgrades to 50 reelstands. The two Colorliner 85 presses will receive new desk upgrades.

Goss UK general manager Ian Buckley says the upgrade will offer real-time ROI "now and over many years to come".

As components on the presses become harder to find, Goss has positioned itself to keep its large base of newspaper presses and inserter customers up and running through its global engineering, as well as their recent strategic acquisitions

"The Colorliner presses have given the NYT great service for more than 20 years," says Buckley. "Goss will apply the latest innovations to ensure they have a long working life, and employ the most cutting edge technologies to allow the presses to be run in the most modern and effective way."
