Singapore's Straits Times is offering new subscribers a free Google Home as the newspaper launches a four-stream audio service on the device.

News and podcasts from the paper and also the Business Times and radio station MoneyFM 89.3 will be available through Singapore Press Holdings' link with Google.

New subscribers who sign up from April 20 receive a free Home Mini or they can

top up $79 to receive the larger Google Home.

The deal means users will be able to give voice commands for the device to read latest news including news and financial bulletins, podcasts from both papers, and a segment offering tips on career development and personal growth.

SPH deputy chief executive Anthony Tan says the initiative aims to improve user experience and provide audiences with new ways of accessing news: "Voice-enabled technology is the latest frontier and we see a lot of potential to use it to increase our engagement with audiences.

"We are delighted to collaborate with Google on this initiative and congratulate them on the launch of Google Home, alongside our strategic partner StarHub, in Singapore," he says.
