Asia to pay more for Norske Skog's ANZ paper

Newsprint maker Norske Skog is putting up prices on the products it sells to Asia from its mills in Australia and New Zealand.

The Norway-headquartered producer of newsprint and magazine paper says the 5-10 per cent increase is necessary to address higher production and shipping costs, which have led to "unsustainably low pricing" in these markets.

Actual increases, "depending on the underlying cost increase applying to the relevant market and customer", and will take effect from April 1.

No announcement has been made about domestic prices, the largest of which are governed by long-term contracts.
