Regional roster shares media secrets

Speakers from Australia and New Zealand, India and Singapore are among those named for WAN-Ifra's Publish Asia event in Manila in March.

Print production experts from Australia and India are Geoff Booth (national director for production and logistics at News Corp Australia) and Sanat Hazra, who is technical director of Times of India publisher Bennett, Coleman & Co.

Also from Australasia are Simon Crerar, BuzzFeed's Australia editor, and "across the ditch" in New Zealand, Shayne Currie, managing editor of the New Zealand Herald. A journalist for 25 years, he worked as a crime reporter in Wellington and briefly, New York, before taking up newsroom leadership roles.

From Singapore come Asian newsroom operations, digital transformation and media business specialist Alan Soon of The Splice Newsroom, and social media expert Asha Phillips, founder of Verily.

With experience of the current transformation of the 800-strong print newsroom of the Hindustan Times, which has staff and editions across India, is chief editorial and content officer.

A member of the WAN-Ifra consulting team, Håkan Helander of TT News Agency is based in Sweden and has more than 20 years experience as a consultant in the media industry.

The conference is also an opportunity to hear from Jonny Wright, newly-appointed international managing director of Dow Jones and a former publisher of Financial News and WSJ Pro.

Welcoming delegates to her country, Sandy Prieto Romualdez is president and chief executive of the Philippine Daily Inquirer, while group managing director of Malaysia's Star Publications - who began as a rookie reporter 27 years ago - is another speaker with years of media experience.
