First fruits of a cooperation between Politico and the South China Morning Post have already appeared with content sharing between the two.

The partnership between Hong Kong based SCMP - owned by Alibaba founder Jack Ma - and political website Politico will see collaboration on projects focussed on American and Chinese relations.

The Wall Street Journal has reported that the partnership may progress to "deeper financial investment" on both sides.

SCMP has already flagged expansion into the US as part of its commitment to fostering greater understanding and balanced coverage of Chinese affairs. Part of this is the launch of two new mobile services, Abacus - focussed on Chinese tech and consumer gadgets - and Inkstone to brief on "everything China". Opposing views will be represented "so readers have both arguments".
