Sleepless nights no longer a worry for Kim Williams

News Corp staffers who still miss the dulcet tones of former chief executive Kim Williams, can now catch up with him on radio.

After guesting on ABC RN's What keeps me awake, he now has charge of the show, for which film maker Rachel Perkins, writer Anna Funder, journalist Laura Tingle and theatre director Kip Williams are slated among Australian and international guests.

Other guests appearing include social campaigner Tanya Hosch, former US politician Eric Cantor, Instagram chief operating officer Marne Levine, conductor Richard Gill, creative director Neil Armfield, winemaker Brian Croser and chief executive of the New York Times Company Mark Thompson, which will be one to watch.

Aim of the programme is to discover those issues which matter so much to his guests that they metaphorically or actually, can't sleep.

A quick read of his current commitments seems to answer the question for Williams. As chairman of Mojo Power, Vidcorp, Cranlana and the Copyright Agency, and co-chair of the State Library of NSW Foundation, and a current board member of Myer Family Investments, Executive Channel International, the Australian Grape and Wine Authority, the University of Western Sydney Foundation, the Myer Foundation, a trustee of Thomson Reuters Founders Share Company, and a commissioner of the Australian Football League, it's surprising he has time to even think about sleep. He's also a composer.

After moving on from a difficult term as chief executive of the then News Limited, he was at first blamed for all the publisher's problems, but is lately being credited for doing the necessary to shape the Australian operation for the future, including innovations such as the introduction of the Méthode newsroom technology only now being fully exploited.

He also had chief executive roles at Foxtel, Fox Studios Australia, the Australian Film Commission, Southern Star Entertainment and Music Viva Australia. He was appointed as a Member of the Order of Australia in June 2006 for services to the arts and public policy formulation in the film and television industries.

What keeps me awake airs on ABC RN on Fridays and Sundays at 1.30pm, or on download.
