WoodWing Software has a new chief executive in former publishing chief Jan de Roos.

He took over Roel-Jan Mouw - who led the company for three-and-a-half years, and is stepping down "for family reasons" - from the beginning of February.

de Roos comes to WoodWing from two years with Big Data startup Experience Data, and spent 13 years as chief executive of a Dutch group publishing newspapers, magazines and books. He also founded and worked as an interim manager for several companies in the services and technology industries, including smartphone maker Fairphone and Enviu. He holds a degree in computer science.

He says WoodWing is "one of the most interesting companies" and recognised as a thought leader in content technologies: "The team is known for its high level of innovation and has a promising outlook," he says. "I am excited to assume the leadership of WoodWing and to be part of the further evolution of the company."

Mouw led the company for three-and-a-half years, during which it grew revenue significantly, repositioned itself strategically and expanded its global footprint.

"Roel did an outstanding job and today WoodWing is in better shape than ever," cofounder and president Erik Schut says. "In 2016 we again had strong growth for all of our business lines. The American business grew more than 20 per cent and WoodWing's DAM business accelerated to 55 per cent growth."
