Ferag has sold its first MemoFlag installation into India as part of a mailroom system for Ananda Bazar Publishers new printing centre outside Calcutta. The order is part of what is known as the ‘Eastern Metropolitan Bypass’ project which includes three Wifag presses. ABP has seven printing centres and already uses Ferag equipment at the existing Calcutta facility. The new order calls for four UTR universal conveyors and eight MultiStack compensating stackers, each with SmartStrap cross strapping. ABP will become Ferag’s first Indian user with the MemoFlag advertising format developed by WRH Marketing and will equip one of four lines with the application module. The publisher has airlines and companies from the catering industry “queuing up” to use MemoFlag, which places a message as a peelable wraparound to the front page of the newspaper. ‘Anandabazar Patrika’ claims to be India’s highest circulation Bengali newspaper, appearing daily in three editions – for Calcutta, New Delhi and Mumbai – with a total circulation of 1.35 million copies. In addition, the group also publishes ‘The Telegraph’ English-language newspaper with a 430,000 copy circulation, as well as magazines ‘Desh’ and ‘Sananda’. ABP also holds a 45 per cent interest in Britain’s Pearson Group, publisher of the ‘Financial Times’. Group chief executive D.D. Purkayastha is deputy chairman of the Ifra India committee.
