German book and newspaper publisher Vorländer is making "a clear statement" with an order for a new press to print their daily Siegener Zeitung.

The family-owned company - which celebrates its bicentenary in 2023 - has ordered a two-tower manroland Geoman e:line as the key element in the modernisation of its Dreis-Tiefenbach print centre.

Introduced at DRUPA last year, the 90,000 cph Geoman e:line is designed for modular automation and high quality. The Vorländer press will have two four-high towers, a PFN-25 jaw folder and RSN 15 reel splicers, complemented by inline systems for ink density, colour and cut-off register, and fan-out control. Integrated gluing heads and a stitcher add production flexibility.

The system will include manroland's PECOM-X Control Centre, with intuitive touch screens. The design provides for further automation options to be retrofitted at any time.

Publisher Wolfgang Rothmaler says the press order is groundbreaking for his company's future: "We were convinced by the efficient potential of the innovative design and consider a long-term cooperation with manroland as the ideal condition for constantly increasing the success of printing our newspaper."

manroland regional sales manager Josef Aumiller says the decision underlines the company's strategy for newspaper printing: "Of course, we are very proud that Vorländer Verlag is the first reference customer for the Geoman e:line."
The press will start production in spring 2018.
