SWUG NZ has named the date and place for its annual conference.

The technical event for New Zealand-based newspaper will be held in Dunedin from August 27-28.

Allied Press, publishers of the Otago Daily Times will host the event, with delegates staying at the Scenic Hotel.

President Dan Blackbourn says the conference promises to be “even better than previous ones” with expectations that 130 sponsors and delegates will attend.

“We’ve also managed to organise cheap return flights from Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch to Dunedin, and have pre booked these,” he says. And there’s a chance that early birds may be able to get even cheaper seats.

Theme of this year’s conference is ‘Think with ink’, and Blackbourn promises top class presenters and presentations.

The Otago Daily Times is New Zealand's oldest surviving daily newspaper – Christchurch's The Press, six months older, started as a weekly paper – and was founded by WH Cutten and Julius Vogel (later Sir Julius) during the boom following the discovery of gold at the Tuapeka. It merged with the Evening Star in 1975 forming a new company, Allied Press, and moved into its building in Stuart Street in 1977. Allied Press also publishes several smaller papers including the Greymouth Star.

More details from Dan.Blackbourn@apn.co.nz or contact Sue Archibald, sue@promoteltd.co.nz about flights, as SWUG needs to know numbers so seats can be held.
