Doug Gibson’s Newspaper Solutions is teaming up with Canadian press drive and automation company Electronic Design Group.

Gibson says the new strategic alliance will bolster his used equipment and consultancy business’s automation and controls offering with access to EDG’s automation and drives expertise.

Headquartered in New Hamburg, Ontarion, EDG specialises in upgrades for press drives, RTPs, conveyors and other equipment. The agreement will augment its sales force, giving extra “feet on the street” and acting in a manufacturer’s representative capacity.

EDG gets access to Newspaper Solutions’ more than 40 years of production operations, press and post press experience – which includes Heidelberg/Goss upgrades – and open up opportunities for web and postpress enhancements for Harris, Heidelberg, Goss and GMA/Muller equipment.

“Coming from our Goss and Heidelberg equipment background, we are familiar with many of the choices newspapers are looking at as their operations transition,” Gibson says. “The arrangement is a natural extension of what we offer today, and Newspaper Solutions is well positioned to open doors and generate interest in EDG’s automation solutions.”

EDG’s Dave Bast says having the experienced and knowledgeable sales team onboard “makes both our offerings stronger”.

Newspaper Solutions is headquartered in Dayton, Ohio, and covers North and South America with used newspaper equipment, evaluation, audit and training services for newspaper and commercial operations. Gibson left Goss International, where he wa director of newspaper sales, earlier this year.
