Singapore Press Holdings has announced a series of executive and editorial changes following the appointment of Patrick Daniel as deputy chief executive.

The publisher of Singapore's Straits Times has named Daniel and Chinese Media group chief Anthony Tan as deputy chief executives - reporting to report to chief executive Alan Chan - with Warren Fernandez becoming editor-in-chief of the group's English/Malay/Tamil Media (EMTM) group, all effective from tomorrow.

Patrick Daniel, who is 61, will continue to oversee the EMTM group as well as marketing, digital, information technology, legal/secretariat, corporate communications & CSR, and risk management. He has held various appointments since joining the Straits Times in October 1986, and became EMTM editor-in-chief in 2007.

Editor of the Straits Times Warren Fernandez (50) adds editor-in-chief of EMTM to his responsibilities, and current deputy editor Sumiko Tan becomes executive editor of the flagship newspaper.

Ignatius Low, currently also deputy editor and head of SPH's information resource centre, becomes managing editor of EMTM.

Anthony Tan, who is 43, takes on responsibility for the production, circulation, corporate development, finance, human resources and administration divisions, while continuing to helm the Chinese Media Group and media strategy and analytics division. He joined SPH in February last year from a role as deputy secretary (policy) with the Ministry of Health and as special assistant to former president Lee Kuan Yew.

EMTM comprises the print and digital operations of the Straits Times, Business Times, The New Paper, Berita Harian, My Paper (English section) and their respective student publications, as well as subsidiaries publishing Tamil Murasu and tabla!, book publishing and data services businesses, and radio stations Kiss92 and One FM 91.3.

CMG publishes Chinese newspapers Lianhe Zaobao, Lianhe Wanbao and Shin Min Daily News, as well as four student weeklies and operates Chinese radio station UFM100.3, and Focus Publishing.

Alan Chan says both the new deputies key members of the senior management team, Daniel "a media veteran with 30 years of experience in SPH" and Tan having brought "fresh perspectives and new ideas" since joining the group.
