US-based publisher Community Impact has added to its print capacity with the installation of a waterless press to print inserts and marketing labels.

The five-colour Presstek 75DI sheetfed press is made by a sister company of Goss international, which supplied their quick-changeover Magnum Compact at their Pflugerville, Texas, printing and mailing facility.

Community Impact now boasts a total mailed circulation of more than 1.7 million across 22 newspapers.

Community Impact Printing general manager David Ludwig says the digital offset printing press supports the localised offering by enabling the smaller print runs clients need to make it more affordable to advertise. With five units plus inline aqueous coating, it produces advertising inserts as well as direct mail postcards, and 'marriage mail' detached marketing labels, which are attached to the newspapers for mailing. Previously these were outsourced.

Ludwig says, having purchased the Magnum Compact to print their newspapers, they explored other products offered by the AIP group when they were looking for a sheetfed press.
