Peter Miller says he is "returning to his first love" as chief executive of Australia's NewsMediaWorks.
The appointment - effective in late July - was announced and fills the vacancy created by the sudden departure of Mark Hollands from the post in February.
Miller's more than 25 years in media has included stints with both News and Fairfax Media, the group's two biggest publishers. He was group sales and marketing director at Fairfax, and marketing and circulation director at News Corp's Mirror Australian Telegraph Publications and advertising sales director for its (Sydney) Daily Telegraph and Sunday Telegraph. He also worked as advertising sales director of both ACP Magazines (now Bauer Media) and Pacific Magazines.
For the last 13 years, he has driven ad tech company Adstream as Australia managing director, helping establish and grow the company.
NewsMediaWorks chairman Michael Miller says his strong connections to, and deep understanding of the publishing industry and all the key industry stakeholders, as well as his experience in technology and digital solutions for advertisers and agencies "made him the stand-out candidate".
A focus of his role will be steering the body - which has one fewer member following News' acquisition of APN Australian Regional Newspapers - to operational efficiencies and communicating newsmedia's strong value proposition to advertisers and media agencies.
Peter Miller (pictured) says he is "excited to return to my first love of publishing.
"Our news media publishers have some of Australia's most trusted and respected brands that attract large and engaged audiences and present a compelling proposition for advertisers.
"I look forward to working with the NewsMediaWorks team to promote the industry and its many initiatives."
