DFM bid tops Boston Herald auction

Digital First Media has won the bankruptcy auction for the Boston Herald, subject to court approval.

According to Dirks, Van Essen & Murray, which represented the Herald, the bid package totalled $11.9million in cash and assumed liabilities.

Approval is needed at a hearing is set for Friday in federal bankruptcy court in Delaware.

The other bidders were GateHouse Media and Revolution Capital Group.

Denver-based Digital First Media is owned by New York investment firm Alden Global Capital. Digital First owns two other Massachusetts daily newspapers, the Lowell Sun and the Fitchburg Sentinel & Enterprise, as well as hundreds of publications across the country, including The Denver Post, The Orange County Register and the Mercury News of San Jose.
