One Free Press media join WaPo's freedom alliance

The 30 US and international media organisations in the One Free Press Coalition have joined the Press Freedom Partnership, founder the Washington Post has reported.

Media in the One Free Press Coalition - which use their platforms to call attention to press freedom issues - include Associated Press, BuzzFeed, Deutsche Welle, Financial Times, Forbes, HuffPost and Wired.

Publisher and chief executive of the Washington Post Fred Ryan says extraordinary results have been achieved when media organizations collectively offer their resources to increase awareness for the rights of fellow journalists worldwide.

"We are excited to add One Free Press Coalition and thus a group of our esteemed colleagues to the Press Freedom Partnership to work together on this shared interest."

Monthly free advertisements in member publications highlight its 'Ten Most Urgent' list, calling attention to the most pressing cases of journalists around the world who are under attack - among them journalists in India and Myanmar.

Founder of One Free Press Randall Lane, who is chief content officer of Forbes, says there has never been a more important time than now to highlight the threats that journalists around the world face every day: "The One Free Press Coalition stands with the Washington Post Press Freedom Partnership to shine a bright spotlight on journalists under attack simply for telling the truth."

One Free Press Coalition joins Press Freedom Partnership organisåations including the Committee to Protect Journalists, International Women's Media Foundation, James W. Foley Legacy Foundation, Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press and Reporters Without Borders.
