With dates set in March for Melbourne and May for Sydney, Australia's 2020 Copy Schools have opened for applications.

The two schools, supported by NewsMediaWorks, are an initiative to encourage quality copywriting across all channels, with some of Australia's leading creative directors, copywriters and news media executives - even a stand-up comedian -sharing their knowledge and experience.

Copy School will be held in Melbourne March 23-27 and in Sydney from May 6-10. There are places for 20 young copywriters or aspiring copywriters at each school. The courses run from 9.00 am to 12 noon each day for a week.

Participants are provided with a "real world" brief that will be presented and critiqued on the final morning of the course.

Chris Taylor is returning as convenor for Melbourne this year, while John Bevins takes over from Copy School founder Ray Black in Sydney.

Taylor's array of guest tutors includes:

plus a yet-to-be-named senior newspaper editor.

In Sydney, guest tutors will include:

Students pay a $275 workshop fee, which is actually a fully tax deductible donation to the Salvation Army (Sydney) or Front Yard Youth Service (Melbourne).
