VOA News has reported the influx of more than 22 foreign journalists newly arrived in Taiwan this year, including some barred from working in China.
The foreign ministry reported that journalists registered "because we provide for freedom of speech and press and respect these rights in practice".
Seven of the 22 who had been based before in China came from the New York Times and Wall Street Journal - and had been expelled from Beijing in March over published content to which the Chinese government objected.
