What can we learn from social media, and its use as a platform by young people to frame their narratives, build identity, promote their movements and to amplify their messages?
That’s one of the topics to be addressed at the upcoming Digital Media Asia conference, to be held in Manila from April 28-29.
A session on the second day looks at the use of platforms, crafting messages and addressing target audiences and asks what traditional media can learn from it. Moderator is OneNews anchor Regina Hing (Lay) with contributions from
Malaka Indonesia co-founder Cania Citta, Marana Media (Bangladesh) founder Nahar Khan, and Joaquin H. Buenaflor, chair of the university of Philippines Diliman student council.
Digital Media Asia offers a one-day advertising masterclass led by Ross Settles, and a two-day conference programme, with speakers including Inquirer chair Sandy Romualdez, Chris Janz (chief executive of Australia’s Capital Brief), Rappler co-founder Glenda Gloria, and Zuraidah Ibrahim, executive editor of Hong Kong’s South China Morning Post.
A breakfast session will relate how the Manila Times is using data and automation, Kurt Gessler will discuss Taboola’s DeeperDive AI answer engine, and Settles will be joined in a session on the use of AI, data and technology by United Daily News’ data development head Anson Mok and KG Media marketing officer Dian Gemiano.
Settles will be joined by Crisela Magpayo-Cervante of WPP Media, Philippines for a revenue session, and Fathm funder Fergus Bell leads a session on smart data deployment with Troels Behrendt Jørgensen of Denmark’s Politiken and Justin Joyas of GMA News Online, Philippines.
A celebration dinner includes the presentation of the Digital Media Awards.
The final day starts with a session on reimagining your newsroom’s internal processes, led by WoodWing’s Hans Fermont, and moves into video issues with moderator Regina Hing (Lay) and speakers Diogo Martins of Mediacorp’s Bloomr.SG, Inquirer.net’s Arlene Burgos, Star Media digital products head Mohd Fuad Mohd Noor, and TLDR News founder Jack Kelly.
There are also sessions on winning product strategies for audience growth, climate storytelling, the use of content to build growth, a showcase of regional AI case studies, that use AI to solve real world problems, and on content distribution and reaching younger audiences.
Finally, Chris Janz is joined by Sam Guzik for a closing plenary on the future of media.
