Another US print site with multiple mastheads to produce is reporting benefits from upgrading workflow.
In Marietta, northwest Georgia (pictured), Times Journal has implemented the ProImage’s NewsWayX platform to support its high-volume production environment and improve efficiency across prepress and platemaking.
The organisation currently produces 18 of its own publications and prints an additional 13 titles for commercial customers.
The move to cloud-based NewsWayX provides a centralised, stable platform for managing file intake, processing, and plate production, supporting faster page handling and more predictable production performance.
Previously problems had included processing speed and overall system responsiveness, impacting scheduling and throughput.
Northwest GA market president & production vice president Doug Crow says the new workflow provides a faster, more consistent workflow environment better aligned with the pace of daily newspaper production.
“The most noticeable difference has been the speed and responsiveness of the system,” he said. “Page uploads, processing, and plate output all move much faster, which helps us maintain a steady and predictable production flow.”
The transition to a cloud-based workflow has also reduced the need for on-premise server maintenance, updates, and backups, lowering IT overhead while improving system accessibility and removing a potential single point of failure within the production environment.
The system integrates directly with existing production infrastructure, including preflighting, CTP, and ink setting systems, with OnColor ECO ink optimisation reducing ink consumption, contributing to ongoing cost savings.
“Our plate room productivity has improved because operators spend less time waiting on pages,” says Crow.
