A model, influencer and former Home and Away actor has been thrust into publishing with a project to bring a 96-year-old show business trade magazine to Australia.
Paris Raine’s 18-month-old Raine Media business is the publisher of The Hollywood Reporter Australia, with veteran journalist Sean Sennett as its editor-in-chief. A website has a ‘coming soon’ message, with a fuller rollout promised and a glitzy launch for the print edition.
Penske Media – which owns Variety and Rolling Stone – is the US publisher of the brand, which first appeared as a daily news-sheet in 1930, and currently also has editions for India, Japan, Spain, and Germany (an Italian version having closed last year).
The companies say the new title will focus on Australia’s screen industry, with a quarterly print edition to be distributed by Are Media subsidiary Are Direct.
THR publisher and executive vice president Lori O’Connor described Australia as a powerhouse of screen talent and storytelling. “With The Hollywood Reporter Australia, we’re extending our trusted brand to a new market in partnership with Raine Media, creating a platform that celebrates Australian creators while connecting them to THR’s global audience and editorial legacy.”
Raine says the launch arrives “at a pivotal moment for both national and global storytelling, with Australia’s screen practitioners contributing artistic excellence, innovation, and a creative legacy that enriches the global entertainment landscape.
“This platform reflects our dedication to meaningful journalism, cultural impact, and a commitment to celebrating the unity within our screen community – setting a new standard of visibility and recognition for Australia.”
Raine told Mumbrella how the opportunity arose following a meeting at a premiere with Sennett, who she describes as “one of the most embedded individuals in the film industry”.
Raine’s credits include Nine Perfect Strangers with Nicole Kidman and Wolf Like Me with Isla Fisher and Josh Gad, along with being Hungry Jacks’ ‘Bursties Girl’ in 2022. Her current activities have allowed her to direct, produce and feature in a multitude of projects delivered across more than 20 countries. A cover girl on issues including Body+Soul and Women’s Fitness, she is also an an influencer with more than 300,000 followers on Instagram.
