A hackathon in Brno, Czechia, hosted by systems developer Newsmatics tackled actionable intelligence and predictive news analytics… and much more.
The winner, PolyTics, combined data from Polymarket and Newsmatics to deliver a digital tool that analysed betting dynamics for specific Polymarket events, detecting spikes, volatility and anomalies. Users gained additional information, context and explanations using news articles from the Newsmatics News Index and LLM-generated analyses.
In a 24-hour challenge at Masaryk University, 11 groups of students wrote data visualisation, trend analysis, prediction & forecasting, content discovery, protection against misinformation and fake news, and other related topics, transforming raw news data into innovative digital tools. Winners Radek 12 took home a CZK25,000 (A$1703) prize.
The second hackathon attracted 40 participants, with judges impressed by the year’s projects plans under consideration for a 2027 follow-up event.
