Find out more about I-Tech’s highly
cost-effective colour register system

An alternative colour register system that uses tiny ‘nano’ marks, stays clean and costs less than comparable systems… that’s the promise of the I-Tech Register Camera.

And you can generally save money by installing it yourself.

Imaging Technologies (I-Tech, www.i-technologies-inc.com) provides a range of state-of-the-art machine vision systems for industrial process automation, offering automated register, ribbon and cutoff controls to newspaper and commercial web printers.

“Our register system clients are experiencing dramatic waste reductions while enhancing the quality of their products,” says sales and marketing senior vice president Bill Brandenburg.

“We believe in building I-Tech on a philosophy no one else can deliver – to provide products built with the latest technology, pack them with every available feature, and finally offer them with the lowest price in the industry.

“Our slogan, ‘Better, faster, smarter and a lower price point’ is not just a cliché, it forms the very foundation of our company. We prove our commitment by delivering products and services that are very high in value, backed by performance guarantees.”

At the Columbia, Minnesota, print site of Tribune Printing, the I-Tech system had reduced total waste by 30 per cent within 90 days of the system being installed. “This kind of waste savings they see today is something we projected back when the rest of the project was completed in March 2010,” says Brandenburg. “They are keenly aware of product quality, and we will be watching progress as they improve performance even further.

“Before I-Tech automation, they had been avoiding taking commercial work that had very stringent registration requirements. Today, they are more aggressive about the commercial work they go after.”

Initial paper savings at Tribune equated to 279 metric tons a year, with further benefits from crew optimisation… a direct result of having to pay less attention to register issues.

I-Tech automated register control systems use ‘nano’ register marks which are smaller than most being used in the printing industry today. The unobtrusive marks take a minimum of print space and can save paper, in some circumstances being positioned within a work image. “All other things being equal, the smaller the mark, the better,” says Brandenburg.

One of the system’s strengths is its ability to stay clean for long periods. Constant positive air pressure ensures optical components are isolated from the ink mist, dust and other surrounding particulates.

“We suggest the camera is installed immediately after the last printing unit,” says Brandenburg. “This offers the best in control performance, providing least amount of waste, but this is a punishing environment for imaging instruments with sensitive optical components.

“The I-Tech Register Camera has been engineered with a full-time air purge cleaning system as standard, and we have installations where periodic cleaning is needed only every six months. That’s quite a contrast to some legacy equipment that needs cleaning once per day and in some extreme cases once every job.”

As a result, press operators can spend their time on critical tasks without worrying about constantly cleaning camera optics.

The elegantly simple system design allows most clients to install the system themselves. However, I-Tech can also provide the installation services for those sites that do not have the capability or resources.

All the I-Tech products have been designed with full remote internet support capability. Engineers can see every detail regarding the operation of the product, live and in real-time, and can talk with your operators on the very same console they use for controlling the system.

Software upgrades are easily implemented remotely as well.

Finally, the products themselves so reliable that they come with free 24/7 support for life, ensuring that problems related to operator training are eliminated.

Service calls with on-site support are available for problems that cannot be diagnosed and fixed remotely.
