Trinity Mirror pulls integrated newsrooms apart for Live brand

The trend to integrated newsrooms has suffered a setback with Trinity Mirror announcing plans for more digital-only business units.

The publisher split its core Birmingham site last September, the launch of a separately-staffed Birmingham Live leading to redundancies and physical relocation.

Now 49 editorial jobs are at risk, the majority "print related", as plans are rolled out for 'Live' digital products for Bristol, Stoke-on-Trent, Coventry, Derbyshire, Somerset, Nottinghamshire and Leicestershire. A similar model is planned for Liverpool, but will remain under the Liverpool Echo brand.

Trinity Mirror is reportedly "very pleased" with progress in Birmingham which includes healthy audience increases.
