America's Local News Association has elected three new directors and named Tom Sly as its new board chairman.

For the first time in its history, the executive committee now has majority female leadership.

Sly is vice president for digital revenue at the E.W. Scripps Co. In line to follow him as board chair are (in order of succession) Catherine Badalamente (Graham Media Group), Lisa Bishop (Heartland Media), treasurer Janis Ware (The Atlanta Voice) and secretary P.J. Browning (The Post and Courier).

Chief executive Nancy Lane said that under the leadership of past president Bob Brown and chair Tom Sly, "we have made diversity a huge priority".

"We are finally seeing the results of our efforts with four of the six executive committee positions now being held by women. In my 20 years at LMA, there have only been four female board chairs and now we'll have four in a row starting in 2022."

LMA's three new directors represent a digital startup, a public broadcaster and an African-American newspaper. They are Tracy Brown, pictured (WBEZ/Chicago Public Media), Eric Barnes (The Daily Memphian) and Larry Lee (The Sacramento Observer).
