Simon Davies is joining Australia's NewsMediaWorks, succeeding Charlie Murdoch as marketing director.

Joining on September 10, Davies brings more than 20 years' media industry experience with media agencies and media owners, most recently as owner of a consulting business and for four years with Bauer Media as where he was head of brand advertising strategy and director of media solutions. Prior to that he was national trading head at media agency OMD. He has been deputy chairman of the Audit Bureau of Circulations' executive committee representing the Media Federation of Australia.

NewsMediaWorks chief executive Peter Miller says he will bring "a depth of strategic and analytical thinking" to the role. "His experience in the media sector, working with OMD on some of the country's largest advertisers and then with media owners on sales strategy and solutions, will be invaluable as we continue to see advertisers reevaluating and then investing back in newspapers and news websites".

Charlie Murdoch is joining News Corp as general manager of trade marketing after five years with NewsMediaWorks. Acknowledging his "outstanding contribution", Miller said Murdoch had worked relentlessly to promote the sector and had overseen many initiatives: "We wish him well at News Corp where we will continue to collaborate on behalf of the industry."
