Promotion of Rutger Jansen to chief executive of Contiweb this month marks the retirement of Bert Schoonderbeek after a quarter-of-a-century with the company.

Schoonderbeek (above left) played a pivotal role in establishing the business in web ancilliary markets and driving its expansion in digital, labels and packaging.

Most recently he oversaw - on its 40th anniversary - its independence from Goss Goss International when AIP sold the latter to manroland web.

Schoonderbeek will remain on the management board and part-time as chief business development officer.

Rutger Jansen's appointment was effective from January 1, with the two working together to ensure a smooth transition.

American Industrial Partners partner Rick Hoffman described Schoonderbeek as an icon, honouring his 24 years of service as chief executive of Contiweb. "His tireless and inspired leadership has led Contiweb through tremendous growth and piloted the route to Contiweb's independence.

"Bert has pushed the company's entry into new markets, including labels and packaging, while also investing in areas that will continue to be highly valued by our customers."

Jansen (above right) first joined the company - then Stork Contiweb - in 1990 and was director of sales and service prior to the Goss acquisition in 2004. He then held several positions and was promoted to service director EMEAR, and then sales director.

"I am privileged to be taking on the role as chief executive," he said. "Bert's invaluable leadership and significant contributions have positioned us extremely well to continue this success. I am looking forward to many more exciting milestones in front of us."
