Paper maker UPM has launched a new lightweight stock in weights from 29-38 gsm.

The company says its EcoLite stock will deliver significant cost savings as well as being an ecological choice.

News and retail new business development manager Joonas Järvinen says the product is a result of extensive research and development at Kaipola mill in Finland. "The name, UPM EcoLite, says it all, offering our customers an economical option without compromising on the reading experience or folding properties of the paper."

Designed primarily for customers printing pharmaceutical leaflets and religious literature as well as user manuals and instructions, it is available in 29, 32, 34 and 38 gsm.

"A lighter paper equals a smaller environmental footprint as it requires fewer raw materials, less water and less energy to produce and transport," says Järvinen.

Work on corporate responsibility has seen the company listed as the forest and paper industry leader in the Dow Jones Sustainability Europe Index for the fifth consecutive year, and a member of UN Global Compact LEAD as the first forest industry company since January last year.
