Extension automation 'sells itself' to German newspaper

Expanding its press in the Koenig & Bauer heartland of Würzburg has introduced Mainpost publisher to the benefits of modern press automation.

An extension of the Commander CT included QIPC register and colour control, leading to a general modernisation of the K&B press including QI's mRC-3D and IDS-3D systems.

Mainpost technical manager Andreas Kunzemann (pictured) says convincing results on the extension made them decide "relatively quickly" to retrofit the rest of the machine as well.

He says demand for consistent, high quality printing is increasing. "In addition, we like to limit the number of waste copies as much as possible. That's why we needed to invest in new press automation".

The Würzburg presses also print the Schweinfurter Tagblatt, Schweinfurter Volkszeitung, Hassfurter Tagblatt, Bote vom Hassgau and the Volksblatt are printed in Würzburg. With a total of eight mRC-3D and four IDS-3D,

they will all be able to count on an increased quality. "The most important thing for us is the high availability and reliability of the QIPC system," says Kunzemann.
